REQUIREMENTS FOR USE:
Since you are running Unix, will need to install the Java runtime environment for your operating system in order to use this software.
TO RUN MAPEDIT:
If you have Java installed, you can type the following command to run Mapedit for Java, after using the 'cd' command to enter this directory:
java Mapedit
TO INSTALL MAPEDIT FOR MORE CONVENIENT USE:
If you are a system administrator, and you want to install the program for more convenient use by many users, starting from any directory, you will need to move this directory to a location such as /opt or /usr/local/lib, and then EDIT and install the file "mapedit," which is a shell script, in a convenient directory such as /usr/local/bin.
It will be necessary to learn the following information before installing the script:
-- The standard Java "class path" on your system -- The location of the java interpreter, if it is
not found in the "PATH" of typical users of your system
