abridge - Online bridge game
aBridge is a cross-platform online bridge game. Currently it is only available for linux (or other unix) and microsoft windows. At the moment, it is in a sort of alpha state, meaning that you can play bridge using it, but it is missing a lot of features that are reasonably important, and has many remaining bugs.
COMPILING UNDER LINUX
To compile aBridge, you will need to have wxWindows installed, either version 2.2.9 or later. In linux, you should be able to compile with a simple ./configure && make, and then install with make install. If you have problems compiling aBridge, please let me know.
If you want to enable speech synthesis (so you can hear people's bids, for example), you will need to have festival and a few other libraries installed. Also, currently speech sythesis is (in my experience anyways) incompatible with artsd and esd, which probably will cause problems when running under gnome or kde. Note: if you want to set up your own server, the 'dealer' program MUST be compiled without speech sythesis, or it WILL segfault.
COMPILING UNDER WINDOWS
I do not know how to compile aBridge under windows. The windows version is cross-compiled using linux (since I don't have windows). Probably it isn't too hard to get it compiled under windows, if you know how to compile other wxWindows programs, and if you succeed at this, please let me know, so I can include your makefile (or project or whatever) in the standard distribution.
Comments are welcome. Bugreports are welcome (at abridge-devel@lists.sourceforge.net).
