Wolfshade? Hrm...where have you heard that before? We'll if you played Toril MUD Wolfshade was a clan, made up of the wonderous mage Gurk, the herioic warriors Arkan, Mugwa, and the very large barbarian shaman Duth.

Now that you know where the name came from, the next most commonly asked question is why write an original code mud? Well as much as myself (Demetrius a.k.a. Duth), and John (a.k.a Guk) enjoyed playing Toril and Duris to name a few, we are coders at heart. Thus in late 1997 we set out to write an original code mud with the following goals:

  • Written in C++ to take advantage of polymorphism, multi inheritance, that we felt lending themselves we'll to a mud.
  • To keep the play-ablity of MUDs like Circle, but to be original (Check out or spell and skill system).
  • To have fun while we work (if not what the hell is the #@!* point?).
  • Release the code under a freeware license

Well after about two years, both of us graduating from college, myself moving to GA, then moving back to Ohio, and getting married, we are ready to release this code to the public.

So after the mud what's next? We have talked quite a bit about that, and we are currently looking into a number of things. Please check out Wolfshade's Possible Future Projects. You can even vote, to help us decide!

Look forward to seeing you gaming!
