PhotoGroup 0.0.2

Copyright 2002 Moray Allan

INTRODUCTION

PhotoGroup is a GNOME program for organising collections of images.

PhotoGroup is still under development (pre-alpha). Please don't complain if you can't get it to do what you want, or if you lose your work. This version has been released because it may be useful to some people, not because it's ready for everybody. Since I wanted the program for a practical purpose, it was most important to me to implement the necessary features, and I haven't yet had time to clear up many of the bugs I introduced along the way....

INSTRUCTIONS

Use the menus in the normal way to open/close/save files - unusually, the PhotoGroup open dialog box may be used to select either files or directories. Collection files will be loaded; directories will have the images and directories they contain displayed; image files will create a new collection containing that image. You must choose a filename for the collection to save any changes you make to a new collection generated from a directory or from a single image.

Drag images in or out of PhotoGroup, drag images within a window to reorder them, or drag them to another PhotoGroup window to copy them to another collection. Select multiple images by dragging a box or using control/select in the normal way.

When an image is selected, click on the highlighted caption area below it to edit the image's caption.

Use the Edit menu or the popup menu to delete images or rotate them in steps of 90 degrees - image files are not deleted or rotated on disk, but are removed from the current collection, and the rotation with which they are displayed is changed.

Use 'View image' in the Edit menu or the popup menu to enter full-screen viewing mode. Use the popup menu here to go backwards or forwards in the collection, to zoom in or out, or to close the full-screen view. You can also click the left-hand button to close the full-screen view, and click the middle button to go forwards in the collection, without using the popup menu.
