Getting Started
Welcome to CueCard! This is a free flash card training program.
It can be used to enter cards, and then print them or study them on the computer.
Adding Cards
Cards can be added from the main screen, titled 'Make Cards'. This is the screen shown when the program is started.
To bring up the card entry dialog, press the Add Cards button on the bottom left corner of the window.
Next, type in a question and an answer. If you want, you can choose pictures for the cards as well. The layout of the cards is handled automatically.
When you are finished typing, press the Add Card button. The card has now been added to your deck and the input fields are cleared so you can add another one.
Keep adding cards. When you have added the last card, press the Done button to return to the 'Make Cards' screen.
Studying on the Computer - Learn Cards
Studying on the computer can be faster, and it certainly wastes less paper than printing out cards. CueCard offers several ways to study, depending on your preferences.
To begin studying press the Study button at the bottom right hand corner of the 'Make Cards' screen. This takes to you the 'Learn Cards' screen.
CueCard's Learn Mode is the best way to learn new material. It starts you off with just a few cards, gives you time to try and memorize them, and then gradually adds more cards to the mix until you have mastered the entire set.
This is how most people study in real life, so it seemed like a good idea to have the program support it. If you already know the material and want something different, chose Select Study Mode from the Options menu and try Review or Quiz modes (see Study Modes).
The Learn Cards screen gives you a chance to try and memorize the cards before being quizzed on them. If you want to take on more cards at once, use the spinner at the bottom. Try to concentrate on each question and answer, think about them in real life situations, whatever helps. When you think you know them all, press the Continue button to go to the 'Test Cards' screen.
Studying on the Computer - Test Cards
In the 'Test Cards' screen, a question is shown along with a Show Answer button.
When you see the question, say the answer to yourself (assuming you know it ;)) and then press the Show Answer button, the button disappears and is replaced by Correct and Incorrect buttons.
If you got the answer right press Correct, otherwise Incorrect. This helps CueCard keep track of which cards need more practice and which ones not to show you any more, so there isn't much point to cheating.
Once you have answered all the active cards enough times correctly (assuming you are using Learn Mode - see Study Modes), a message will pop up telling you to add more cards.
Press the Add More Cards button, and you will be returned to the 'Learn Cards' screen with the cards you just learned greyed out and a set of new cards for you to memorize.
Continue adding and testing cards until you know the entire deck.
Studying on the Computer - Study Modes
Learn Mode
Learn mode starts off by testing you on just a few cards. As you begin to memorize them, more cards will be added to the active set in stages. Before each stage you are given an opportunity to study and memorize the cards that are about to be added.
The idea here is to introduce cards at the rate you can successfully memorize them. Concentrate on trying to memorize each card before testing on it, since first impressions (correct or incorrect) tend to be the ones remembered.
After all the cards in the deck have been answered a certain number of times you have 'finished' and can either keep studying, or return to the main screen.
An additional feature is that cards that have been answered correctly show up less frequently than cards you are having trouble with. This automatically focuses you on problem cards, much like a study partner would try to do.
Review Mode
Review mode is designed to quickly refresh your memory on a set of cards you already know. It tests all the cards, in random order, until you are ready to stop.
