It is now possible for lintad to function using only a Lucent/Agere softmodem.

WARNING
For maximum stability it is recommended to use two modems - a Lucent/Agere softmodem and truemodem (true hardware modem). The required proprietary softmodem driver is a large and complex module; it is possible for bugs in this module to crash the operating system.
DRIVER
Get the driver for the softmodem; http://www.physcip.uni-stuttgart.de/heby/ltmodem/ is one place to get various driver versions. Build and install the driver; http://www.dwrees.co.uk/lucent_install.shtml may provide some help in the event of difficulty. Once the driver is built and installed, the modem should be checked for proper operation with a comm program such as minicom (the device node will be /dev/modem).
SETUP
In the configuration file lintad.conf, the following parameters must be set: a. modem_device must be set to /dev/modem b. ltmodem_rmmod_path must be uncommented c. modem_process_path must be uncommented d. if the install directory is not /usr/bin/lintad/ then the parameters

ltmodem_rmmod_path and modem_process_path must be adjusted e. the instructions in the README must be followed from this point on

PROBLEMS
Receiving faxes over the softmodem seems to work fine, but efax fails when trying to send faxes (have tried driver version 6.00c2 and 8.22a3).
