Back to files

mp3librarian by Benjamin Meyer

Version 1.01

This application is used to help in tagging mp3's that people listen too. It works on the premiss that you have albums and that you store them as such. All of the mp3's need to be accessed via a root mp3 directory such as /mp3/. This is what you would pass in for -r. Inside /mp3 you need to create a directory "new" and then inside that genere's that you listen too etc. Here is an example directoy: /mp3/new/Alternitive/Staind/Break The Cycle/*.mp3 *.mp3 representing the songs in "Staind's" "Break The Cyncle" album. Hopefully you get the pattern on how to put in new albums.

Now that you have placed an album into new and you can run id3tool. Use -r and -n (new songs) and see what it tells you about your files. The only thing that id3tag can not do is Track numbers and the year so you need to do this yourself.

If there are errors that id3tool can not fix you will have to fix them yourself and re-run the tool. If a file is moved and the -b option is turned on the dir will be appended to the backup log for you to at a later date backup the dir

Sense we have full id3 tag support how about some playlists. :-) running with -a will make id3tool create playlists for you with the tracks in order! Also you can create web playlists with the -w and -ws option for those that wish.

This system allows for a number of people to input files into the system, but only the owner of the system can remove them (asuming there are different privilidges set up for "new" and "albums"!). It also allows for a hands free system in a cron job. Here is a typical cron job: mp3librarian -r /mp3/ -l /mp3/log -b /mp3/burn -s /mp3/mailScript -n -c mp3librarian -r /mp3/ -l /mp3/log -s /mp3/mailScript -a mp3librarian -r /mp3/ -l /mp3/log -s /mp3/mailScript -a -w http://www.a.com/
