imfetch (Intelligent Media Fetch) is a download client for Real Media streams. In
other words, it lets you download a stream that could be viewed with RealPlayer
and save it to disk. This is already possible with programmes such as
mplayer. However,
if you just want to download these streams, and don't need the other features of
mplayer, then you may find imfetch easier to install and use.
It is planned, in the future, to develop imfetch into a client for other types of
media streams as well as add the ability to transcode the stream to other media
formats. This is why the name imfetch was chosen, rather then rtspfetch or something
similar.
Note: imfetch does not, as yet, support ".ram" files. If you want to download a Real
Media stream that appears on a web site to be in a file named "something.ram", download
this first with wget and open
it in a text editor. Use the URL contained in the file that looks like "rtsp://.../".
