QueryXMMS (qxmms) is a Linux command line utility that asks XMMS what it is currently doing, quite simple. It has some other features in it that allow for basic remote control of the media player as well. When used it returns the data in an easy to parse format for use in scripts or other applications, an example would be a "Now Playing" script for IRC.
