mudFTP for Windows
This readme covers what is needed to get the windows binary distribution of mudftp running with the minimum of fuss.
The zip file that you unpacked to get to this readme file should contain the following files;
readme
mudftp.exe
mudftp.cfg
Edit the mudftp.cfg file with your favorite editor, for example I use (from the DOS command prompt);
edit mudftp.cfg
Change the 'yourname' and 'yourpassword' to be your account name and account password on the MUD that you're connecting to. It will look something like;
mud ar abandoned.org 4450 zoia password
The second line of the file should start with the word editor and contain the command needed to start the editor that you are going to use to edit files with, for example if you were using the DOS edit command;
editor start /w edit %
If you were wanting to use wordpad instead, then it would be;
editor start /w wordpad %
Note that you must leave the 'start /w' and the '%' where they are. Only change what is between them if you know what you are doing. (If you don't know what 'start /w' does, then it's probably good to assume that you don't know what you are doing. ;-)).
Now, open a DOS command shell if you haven't already. If you are using Windows NT and you do not have administrative privs. then you will need to execute the following line;
set MUDFTP_TEMP=c:\temp\
If you do not have write permissions to c:\temp\ or it does not exist, then change that to somewhere that you can write files to. (For example, the directory you just unpacked mudftp.zip will work.)
To run mudFTP, first login to the mud as usual. Then in the command prompt window that you just opened, change directory to where you unpacked mudFTP;
E.g. cd c:\mudftp\
Then type;
mudftp push ar
Where 'ar' is the word immediately following 'mud' in your mudftp.cfg file. If you didn't change that bit, then it will be 'ar'.
Finally, enable mudFTP editing on the MUD, for Abandoned Reality this can be done with CONFIG +MUDFTP. On ROM MUDs, use just "MUDFTP". Now enter the description editor on the MUD and mudFTP should automatically pop up the specified editor with the requested text in it. If this didn't happen, look at your command prompt window for error messages and try to solve the problem.
