With KLinuxScsiManager you can add / remove SCSI devices from your system.
I don't know, if it works on every linux machine, because I couldn't test it only on my Athlon with an Adaptec 2904CD host adapter. My sofware configuration is SUSE 7.0 pro / Kernel 2.2.16 / KDE2 RC1
