To build the S/W unpack the distributed tar file. Cd into the root directory of the package and execute the script ./configure. This script will attempt to detect the platform you are on and build a sub-directory for it. Cd into the platform specific directory and run make.
Currently the supported system types are AIX, FreeBSD, Linux, OSF, SCO5 and Sun/OS. Others will probably work also. If your system is not detected automatically, specify one of the above system names on the configure command line. This, as above, will create a directory and give a reasonable make file for the OS you chose.
Uucp style device locking is now supported. the option UUCP_LOCKING must be added to the configure command line to enable it. The default is to have no locking. I'll be honest, I myself use very little that requires it. I would appreciate any input on the configurations used on the various platforms, Linux included. If you need to tune it's behavior, you will find all of the tunable parameters in sysdefs.h. Change then as you see fit. If more configuration options as to file location are needed, please let me know.
After the make completes you will find the binaries termnet/termnet, termnet/ttyd and termnetd/termnetd. As a convenience, these files are also copied to the directory named bin in the base directory. Copy these to an appropriate directory such as /usr/local/bin. cd back to the root directory and copy the three man pages in the directory doc to an appropriate directory. See the termnetd.1 man page for instructions on configuring the daemon, it has example entries fopr the termnetd.conf file and termnetd/termnetd.conf can be used as a quick starting configuration for most linux systems. BE CAREFULL NOT TO CONNECT TO YOUR MOUSE!!!
Minimal testing has been given on platforms other than Linux. I know the AIX version of termnet has problems. I'm not going to hold up this release because of it. When I get a chance, I will look into the problem. Being that I have little need for these programs on the other platforms, my priority is not as high as on Linux.
