PKILLER RELEASE 1.3.0, Tue Jun 12 15:44:52 CEST 2001

ABOUT

pkiller is a program that typically runs on a PC-lab client where users log on and off all the time, and where the problem is hanging processes.

The program checks the process table (using /proc/) and compares it with the output from the /usr/bin/who command. When an inconsistency is found it waits for 5 seconds and checks the who command again (just in case!) Then if the user still doesn't show up, pkiller kills the process.

INSTALLATION

Copy pkiller to /usr/local/sbin (or wherever.) Make sure the top line points to your perl installation and that the shell command 'who' is located in /usr/bin. Run the program as root, any progress with be logged to /var/log/pkiller
