NAME

synpic - synthetic picture system ray tracer
     Copyright (c) 1984, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 Peter Miller.

General Public License. See the LICENSE section, below, for
     more details.

DESCRIPTION

The _s_y_n_p_i_c program is a ray tracer. I started writing it in
1984, and have been tinkering with it ever since.

The ray tracer can handle a variety of quadric surfaces, and
a few planar objects, and circular tori. Reflection and
     refraction are supported.

The description language is fully procedural, with a rich
set of geometric types to make descriptions simpler.

There is an translator from NFF provided.

BUILDING

The _B_U_I_L_D_I_N_G file included in this distribution provied full
instructions for building and installing the _s_y_n_p_i_c program.

You will need the _u_r_i package, by the same author, to be
able to build and use the _s_y_n_p_i_c program. The _u_r_i package
containes all the image file access functions.

EXAMPLES

For example images, the tests are a good place to start.
You could also grab Eric Haines' SPD and translate them,
there is a NFF translator included in this distribution.
